NoxSe- wścieklizna/rabies (Jamendo)
NoxSe, from Poland, write a particularly appealing brand of hardcore punk, for my money anyway. It's short, it's fast and it's very angry. There is pretty much no let up in the pacing for the entire record. The album mauls you for fifteen minutes and leaves you with nothing but the desire to press play again. The songs start fast, continue at a fast pace and any slow downs during the song are simply bridges before they return to punching you very hard in the face. It has everything going for it simply on the basis that the album of eleven tracks is fifteen minutes long.
The band are Polish and naturally sing in this tongue and while I've had no direct feedback about the contents of these songs, the English translations of the song titles lend oneself to assume that they are a political band. Songs like 'The Time of Explosions' and 'The Authority Creates the State' don't really have anything else to suggest about it. That said, for my money the strength in this record comes from the fact that knowing little else beyond the song titles does not detract from my enjoyment of this album. They move far too fast for me to keep up anyway so even if it was in English I'd probably love it the exact same.
The only thing that occasionally happens, and this is probably the only thing I will say detracts from the record in the slightest, is that sometimes the vocal mix (a recurring theme with CC music I'm finding) is sometimes too high. It sometimes sounds like they're perhaps too close to the microphone. However, this is mostly not the case.
The only song that passes the two minute mark ('Seriousness of Life') is in fact particularly brilliant as it manages to convey as much anger and speed whilst displaying a particularly strong knack for pacing. The song is dominated by a mid-tempo bass line that just fits and guitar lines that, at first, weave in and out of the song, building into an explosion of stupidly fast riffage. It builds and builds, and, unlike the other songs on the record, when it speeds up it manages to slow itself down again by falling back into the mid-paced verses that dominate the first half of the song. This band knows how to write a song.
Like my last review, there's only so much effusive things to say about music like this without going on and on about, essentially, the same things. This record rules very hard. Go download it now.
